once again, criterion steps in and saves one of my favorites from languishing in the vhs scrap heap. this week's entry is for louis malle's vanya on 42nd street (1994), one of my favorite cinematic experiences ever. now, will someone release betrayal (1983) on dvd, for christ's sake?

trailer tuesday
it is with a heavy heart that trailer tuesday marks the passing of a grand old man. this week's entry is for mervyn leroy's no time for sergeants (1958), the film adaptation of the play that first brought andy griffith to prominence and the first time he worked with don knotts. so long, andy. we will miss you.
